Next up in our interview series with the Aspen team, we speak to IT Support Engineer, David Barz about his journey to Aspen and how he’s adapted to working flexibly from home.

I started at Aspen in November 2019. I’d been working in IT before for about 8 years for other companies of a similar nature and size to Aspen, so the transition to my role as IT Support Engineer at Aspen was quite a smooth one. In other roles before I felt quite pigeonholed in what I was doing and there was little room for growth. I had heard of the name Aspen Solutions before as I had previously worked at a company that bought products from Aspen. I saw a job ad for the role of IT Support Engineer and it sounded like it fit my experience and expectations exactly, so I went for it and here we are!

I was only working at the office for 4 months before everything went into lockdown. Since then, things have certainly grown and a lot more responsibilities have come my way. However it feels like a natural progression that I wasn’t getting in my previous roles, so I’m grateful for it. It was something I was seeking out and I have found it in abundance with Aspen.

Things have definitely changed with COVID, but the team at Aspen have always been understanding and accommodating. My partner had to shield at the beginning of the pandemic and so 2 weeks before most everyone else was working from home they set me up with WFH equipment and I have been working like that ever since! Even now with restrictions lifting, they have been checking in about our wellbeing and our working situation and willing to be flexible based on what is best for us both. As an IT company who quickly and efficiently provided equipment for our clients to work from home, it was as easy a transition as we could have gotten. Before, there were a lot of naysayers who didn’t believe WFH was possible, but I think we’ve proven otherwise.

Myself, Mark and Alan are a close knit team within the larger team at Aspen and we’ve worked out a great system whilst working at home. We call each other every morning to catch up and to brainstorm any issues we’re having or anything we need a hand with. As a result, we’re actually working a lot closer and more efficiently than ever before!

A normal day for us involves lots of calls from our clients looking for a variety of solutions. We’re very busy at the moment so we’ve been working tirelessly to make sure we’re able to help everyone who contacts us. We’ve recently been working on an email migration project for a big client and also recently banded together to help a client who was having problems with their server onto a solution that was a much better and more resilient option for them! All in all, we’ve been able to adapt to our new working situation surprisingly well and are looking forward to more busy months ahead!

With a busy few months past and some changes ahead as some of clients start to migrate back to office working – our team are going to be busy! But you can always get in touch for any IT support requirements you have, right here. Make sure to interact with our LinkedIn and Twitter pages too to keep up to date with all things Aspen.
