On a cold Sunday in February, a group of Aspen Solutions and Canon UK clients and guests met in Edinburgh.
Hosted by Vincent Harkins (MD & Founder, Aspen Solutions), Kevin Sullivan (Head of Canon Scotland) and Kenny McAllister (Aspen Solutions, CCO) the party were there for the Six Nations ‘Auld Alliance’ rugby match between Scotland and France at Murrayfield.
Meeting at Omar’s in Haymarket for a pre-match curry, the conversation was a mix of rugby (how would Scotland perform after the previous week’s crushing defeat at Wales?), the previous day’s football scores and a bit, but not too much, business.
Onto Murrayfield. After a rousing rendition of ‘Flower of Scotland’ which could probably be heard in Paris, a nervous start by Scotland made the home support wonder if another heavy defeat was on the cards. The match was a hard-fought and exciting game. Scotland took time to settle. However, it was a different team performance to the one against Wales. Going right down to the final play in the final few minutes, Scotland surprised and delighted the noisy majority at Murrayfield by winning 32-26.
After handshakes all round with the French supporters in our section, our happy group retired to a favoured bar in Fountainbridge to relive the game and sink a few beers in celebration.
