A Glasgow based group of fundraisers have been shortlisted for a national charity award. Team Aspen, a group of supporters led by businessman Vincent Harkins has been nominated for an award in blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan’s annual supporter awards in the Group Fundraiser of the Year category.
Vincent Harkins, Managing Director of Aspen Solutions, created Team Aspen to campaign, fundraise and raise awareness of Anthony Nolan after his daughter Sophie received a stem cell transplant through the charity.
The group’s inspiring work will be recognised at this year’s Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards (ANSAs) at the Tower of London later this month.
Vincent said, “My daughter Sophie was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 18. She needed a transplant and Anthony Nolan found a donor that, ultimately saved her life. I don’t think you need any more motivation to support a charity then that.”
Team Aspen has taken part in RideLondon, a 100 mile charity cycle, for the past four years raising over £35,000 for Anthony Nolan.
The team has continued to grow in number and every team member promotes the work of Anthony Nolan and the stem cell register.
Vincent said, “Its great to be nominated and from my point of view it is all a team effort! We are delighted to be nominated, the charity is very close to our heart and always will be. Sophie is with us today because of Anthony Nolan.”
Anthony Nolan uses its register to match potential stem cell donors to blood cancer patients in desperate need of a stem cell transplant. It also carries out vital research to make stem cell transplants more successful and supports patients through their transplant journey.
Henny Braund, Chief Executive of Anthony Nolan, says: “Congratulations to Team Aspen on being shortlisted in the 2018 Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards.”
“Every day at least five people begin their search for a matching unrelated stem cell donor to treat their blood cancer or blood disorder. We’re incredibly lucky to have so many people supporting Anthony Nolan’s vital work to find a match for everyone in need of a lifesaving transplant. Team Aspen has excelled over the last year by putting a great deal of time and energy into fundraising.”
Henny added: “We want to say a massive thank you, and congratulations, to Team Aspen and we are looking forward to celebrating with them at the Tower of London.”
The event will take place on 22nd November at the Tower of London.
