Aspen’s registration under WEEE Directive and SEPA Certification

Aspen have gained official exempt activity under the Waste Management Licensing Regulations 1994 – for storage of WEEE pending recovery elsewhere and are officially registered under the Control of Pollution Act 1989 by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). Under the WEEE Directive Businesses are not permitted to dispose of Electronic waste in Skips or Landfills.

What is the WEEE directive and how does it affect businesses?

WEEE stands for the European directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – it was approved by the ‘European union’ in 2007 stating that organisations are no longer allowed to simply dispose of their equipment in skips or landfills.

Therefore businesses are no longer permitted to dispose of the electrical waste unless they are registered as an Official Waste Exception company.

Toner Cartridge Recycling

Under the WEEE directive businesses are required to remove the following:

• “Toner cartridges, liquid and paste, as well as colour toner should be removed whole and intact to prevent the disperse of toner in the material or waste streams”
• Toner powder, and consumables containing toner powder are considered hazardous waste, therefore must be recycled in the proper manor.

Bespoke Environmental Service (tailored to meet individual business needs)

Aspen understand that some businesses do not have the time to carry out these duties themselves and require environmental services that meets all their company paper work needs; therefore our bespoke service includes the following:

• Site Survey: Assessing all of your equipment (on request)
• Collection: All equipment is securely removed from the premise
• Audit Process: Once the collection has been delivered to our secure facility, the items will be tagged and entered into our asset tracking system.
• Sorting process: Assets are processed to determine whether they can be refurbished, broken down for spares or recycled.
• Data Erasure or Data Destruction: Process is selected depending on your requirements.
• Certification: The provision of all necessary paperwork demonstrating compliance in line with current legislation relating to data protection and waste disposal.
